No Hydro Power Plant in My Region, Says Aragatsotn Governor

Governor of Aragatsotn marz (province) Sargis Sahakyan declared in parliament today that a hydroelectric plant won't be built near the villages of Karpi and Ohanavan. Recall, residents of several rural communities nearby have repeatedly blocked the road going to Ohanavan and Ushi, protesting the construction of the hydroelectric plant. The villagers claim that the hydroelectric plant will deprive them of irrigation water, since the plant will consume so much water from Aparan reservoir that their gardens and yards will wither. The protest demonstrations succeeded in having the construction equipment removed from the territory.

The regional governor denied that he is one of the owners of the hydro power plant. He said the owner is an unknown citizen who has no connection to the ruling authorities.
