Karabakh, Azerbaijan Trade Accusations After Soldiers’ Death

At around 2:55 am on May 28, Azerbaijan attempted a reconnaissance and sabotage attack in the southern direction of the Line of Contact between Karabakh and Azerbaijan troops, reports the defense authorities of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. 

According to the official report, the Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army retaliated, "causing significant damage to the Azerbaijani side," forcing them to retreat to their original positions. The official report states that there were at least two victims and one injured on the Azerbaijani side. On the Karabakh side, military conscript, lance corporal Erik Gasparyan, 19, was killed. 

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reported that the Armenian side organized the diversion. According to the official Azerbaijan defense ministry report, Capitain Fikret Mammadov Akif, 32, and Khudaverdi Abilov Farhad, 23, were killed. Soldier Mehman Mirzezadeh Dadashbala, 20, was seriously wounded.

Noe, according to the Karabakh defense authorities, on May 25, Lieutenant Colonel Garik Balayan died from enemy fire.
