Yerevan Mayor Advisor’s Son Arrested

Samvel Qotanjyan, 24, son of Arayik Qotanjyan, advisor to the Yerevan mayor, at around 11:10 pm on June 10 turned himself in to police. Samvel Qotanjyan produced his unregistered 9mm Makarov pistol and said that on June 6, he fired several shots with this gun in the yard of 74 Karapet Ulnetsi St., the police press service informed Epress.am. 

Police arrested Samvel Kotanjyan and are taking steps to identify other people involved the incident. 

Recall, on the evening of June 6, shots rang out near the home of former head of the Kanaker-Zeytun district, Yerevan mayoral advisor Arayik Kotanjyan. 

Police discovered on the scene several vehicles with premium license plate numbers, including a Porsche Cayenne, Mercedes, and Lexus. Also found were three shells and one bullet. Police launched a criminal investigation under charges of RA Criminal Code Article 235 Section 1 (illegal possession, handling, and use of weapons and ammunition) and Article 258 Section 4 (hooliganism committed with a weapon).
