Car Accident with Surik Khachatryan’s Son is Being Covered Up by Syunik Authorities: Haykakan Zhamanak

A car accident took place on October 26 in Goris, when the car (Niva) of Syunik Governor Surik Khachatryan's son, Tigran Khachatryan, collided with the car of the former Syunik Forestry Department Head’s son, reports Haykakan Zhamanak, emphasizing that Tigran Khachatryan was driving at a speed of 120 kph (75 mph) on the streets of Goris.

Former Forestry Head Grisha Hayrapetyan told the paper’s journalist about the incident. Accroding to Hayrapetyan, his son’s car had been wrecked, and impossible to repair. Hayrapetyan’s son had received hand injuries. Tigran Khachatryan escaped from the site, and his name does has not appeared in the police report.

When Haykakan Zhamanak called Goris Police Chief Armen Hovannisyan, the police chief answered and stated that he is busy at the moment and hung up the phone.

The Investigation Committee’s media office told the paper that according to the police report, the driver of the Niva was 39-year old Nikolay Abrahamyan (Syunik Governor’s Security Guard), and that Tigran Khachatryan was not in the car during the incident. Yesterday, Surik Khachatryan stated that his son was in Yerevan on the day of the accident. However, the latter was denied by Grisha Hayrapetyan, who told the paper that Tigran Khachatryan came to their home a few minutes after the incident to see if anyone had died after the accident. In the evening Hayrapetyan also saw Tigran Khachatryan in the hospital.

Hayrapetyan also noted that the police are a 100% certain that Khachatryan was behind the wheel, however, when he spoke to police officers, they said that “we can’t release such an explanation, we barely receive some pocket change for our salaries, they’ll arrange something and fire us (if we do).”
