Drunk Soldier of Russian Military Base Tried to Enter Gyumri Home: Press

A 26-year-old contract serviceman of the 102nd Russian military base in Armenia's second largest city of Gyumri attempted around midnight on January 30 to break into an apartment on the city's 13 Paruyr Sevak street, Haykakan Zhamanak daily newspaper reports, stressing that the soldier was unarmed.

Raffi Aslanyan, the prosecutor of Armenia's Shirak province, told the paper that soldier Sergey Surnikov was released after having been questioned in a police precinct. When asked what the soldier's motives had been for trying to enter the Yeranosyans' apartment, Aslanyan replied that Surnikov had “confused the apartments.”

“He was drunk. There is actual evidence that his fellow serviceman lives in an apartment on 14 Paruyr Sevak street. [Surnikov] explained during questioning that after having a few drinks at his friend's place he left the apartment in hopes of getting a taxi. Unable to find one, however, he went back and, having confused the buildings, tried to enter someone else's apartment,” the prosecutor said.
