Armenian Reporter Demands that Armenian Police Chief Be Subjected to Discipline

Siranuysh Papyan, a reporter for Lragir.am and 1in.am news websites, has appealed to the Ethics Committee for Senior Officials with a request to initiate disciplinary proceedings against RA Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan.

According to RFE/RL’s Armenian service (Azatutyun.am), the journalist has written in her appeal that “the chief of police showed obvious contempt and disrespect for reporters, violating the provisions of the law on civil service.”

Recall, speaking to reporters after a memorial event in Tsitsernakaberd, Gasparyan claimed that Armenian police have undergone a great deal of reform and made positive progress in dealing with media representatives during street demonstrations. However, when Papyan, a Lragir.am and 1in.am correspondent, countered by saying that she saw no changes in police conduct, Gasparyan responded that he “do not see a woman in you.”
