Armenian Government Approves Bill on Karabakh’s Recognition

The Armenian Government approved on Thursday a bill put forward by two opposition lawmakers, Heritage faction member Zaruhi Postanjyan and Armenian National Congress MP Hrant Bagratyan, that calls for the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state. The bill has been sent to the National Assembly for further debate.

The oppositionists’ bill comprises the following two articles:  article 1 – the Republic of Armenia recognizes the Artsakh Republic; article 2 – the present act comes into force the day after its official publication.

With the adoption of the draft law, according to the MPs, “the Republic of Armenia will rightfully recognize the actual status of Artsakh, based on the fact that the Republic of Artsakh meets all the international requirements of statehood.”
