Armenian Parliament Won’t Consider Nagorno-Karabakh Recognition

The bill drafted by opposition lawmakers Zaruhi Postanjyan and Hrant Bagratyan to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh was not included in the agenda of the Armenian parliament's ongoing four-day session. Only 12 parliamentarians – representatives of Heritage and ARF – Dashnaktsutyun factions – voted Monday in favor of including the bill in the agenda, while the majority of the MPs refrained from participating in the voting.

The bill was not backed by National Assembly's Foreign Relations Committee either, with the majority of the committee – 6 lawmakers – failing earlier this morning to take part in the voting. The bill received a single positive and a single negative vote from Heritage MP Tevan Poghosyan and ruling Republican Party representative Hamlet Harutyunyan, respectively.
