Azeri Woman Crosses Into Armenia, ICRC Says

Zohra Valiyeva, a resident of the Azerbaijani village of Yankhli, crossed into Armenia from Azerbaijan on Tuesday, Armenian authorities informed the Yerevan delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The organization is currently negotiating visiting the Azeri woman with relevant Armenian bodies, Zara Amatuni, a spokesperson for the ICRC Yerevan office, told reporters.

She added that ICRC is going to exercise its mandate to get acquainted with the conditions the woman was being kept in and to try to facilitate communication between Valiyeva and her family. If an agreement is reached between the parties and the woman, the organization is ready to assist in her repatriation to Azerbaijan, Amatuni said, without elaborating on the motive behind the woman's actions.
