Two Arrested Over NKR Oppositionist’s Kidnapping

Two Stepanakert men have been arrested over the Monday kidnapping of Hayk Khanumyan, the leader of opposition National Rebirth faction in Nagorno-Karabakh’s parliament, according to a statement issued on June 9 by the press service of NKR police.

39-year-old Mikayel Sahakyan and 48-year-old Sergey Avanesyan, both volunteers of the Nagorno-Karabakh army, turned themselves in to police Thursday, officials said.

Recall, upon exiting the National Assembly building in the NKR capital on Monday, Khanumyan was attacked by 7-8 people, forcibly put in a car and taken to a nearby village where he was beaten up by nearly 20 people. He was hospitalized the same day with a broken nose and ribs.
