Armenian Law Enforcement Search Homes of Opposition Initiative’s Supporters

Officers of Armenia's Investigative Committee broke down on Thursday morning the door of Hrazdan resident Vahe Manukyan's apartment to conduct a search at his home, according to a statement issued by anti-government movement New Armenia. Manukyan, the oppositionists say, is an army friend of New Armenia member, veteran Pavel Manukyan's son, Aram Manukyan.

“[Vahe] Manukyan has no relation to New Armenia and is not engaged in political activity whatsoever. Yesterday, he participated in Aram Manukyan's birthday celebration which has most likely been seen as a cause for searching his apartment,” the statement reads.

New Armenia stress that there was no one at home at the time of the search, and law enforcement officers entered the apartment by breaking down the door. Concurrently, searches were conducted at the homes of New Armenia supporters Hovhannes Harutyunyan and Smbat Barseghyan; the young men have also been called in for questioning.
