Russian Programmer Freed from Armenian Custody

A Yerevan court on Monday denied Armenian prosecutors' motion to keep Russian citizen Sergey Mironov under arrest and ordered his release from custody. At the same time, judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan ruled that the 30-year-old programmer could not leave Armenia for at least 40 days, pending a decision on his extradition to the United States.

Recall, Sergey Mironov was detained late last week by Armenian security forces upon his arrival at Yerevan's Zvartnots airport from Moscow. In a subsequent statement, Armenia's police said the Russian citizen had been taken into custody by a US government request and that Mironov has been wanted by American law-enforcement authorities since May 11 on charges of money laundering and illegal transfer of military technology.
