Armenian Soldier in Critical Condition After Being Shot in Head

Aznavur Baleyan, a military conscript serving in a Nagorno-Karabakh unit, is in critical but stable condition after being shot in the head on November 22 during an argument with a fellow serviceman, News.am reports, adding that the soldier, a native of the village of Tsovazard in Gegharkunik province, has undergone surgery at the Central Military Hospital in Yerevan.

In an earlier statement, Armenia's Investigative Committee had reported that servicemen A. Nersesyan and Aznavur Baleyan had begun arguing over Baleyan allegedly falling asleep while on patrol duty. “During the argument, a shot was fired in the direction of Baleyan, and Nersesyan, seeing that the fellow serviceman was bleeding, called for help and took Baleyan to the nearest military hospital,” the statement said. A. Nersesyan has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, it added.
