Jailed Yerevan Gunman Ends 27-Day Hunger Strike

Daredevils of Sasun member Smbat Barseghyan ended his 27-day hunger strike, after his demand was partially met.  His sister, Lusine Barseghyan, told Epress.am on Tuesday that her brother is in a normal state of health and has been transferred to an individual cell in Yerevan’s Nubarashen prison.

“He feels well; he has been given an individual cell, and as far as we know, the prison officials have no intention of transferring him back to his old cell,” she said. Barseghyan added that the officials have thus far fulfilled her brother’s demand partially, and instead of transferring him to an individual cell in Armavir jail, they agreed to give him one in Nubarashen.

Recall, Daredevils of Sasun members Smbat Barseghyan and Armen Bilyan both went on a hunger strike in late December to demand that they are transferred to Armavir jail from Yerevan’s Nubarashen prison. Bilyan ended his strike on January 12, after a conversation with representatives of the Ombudsman and was transferred to the Convicts’ Hospital penitentiary.
