{"id":133095,"date":"2011-10-05T17:29:42","date_gmt":"2011-10-05T12:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=133095"},"modified":"2011-10-05T17:29:42","modified_gmt":"2011-10-05T12:29:42","slug":"taj-mahal-in-danger-of-collapsing-within-2%e2%80%935-years-experts-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2011\/10\/05\/taj-mahal-in-danger-of-collapsing-within-2%e2%80%935-years-experts-say.html","title":{"rendered":"Taj Mahal in Danger of Collapsing within 2\u20135 Years, Experts Say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve always wanted to visit the Taj Mahal then you better book your flight to India soon \u2014 as it may have fallen down by the time you get round to going, reports <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/travel.aol.co.uk\/2011\/10\/05\/taj-mahal-could-fall-down-in-two-years-time\/\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">AOL Travel (UK edition)<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<br \/>\nAccording to a group of historians, politicians and environmentalists the foundations for the country&#8217;s most famous landmark have dried out and started to rot.<\/p>\n<p>The 358-year-old architectural wonder is built on a foundation of mahogany posts sunk into wells fed by the Yamuna river in Agra.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately the river is running dry \u2014 partly because of pollution, industry and deforestation \u2014 causing the foundations to become brittle and begin disintegrating.<\/p>\n<p>Although activists haven&#8217;t been allowed to see the foundations they insist the threat is real.<\/p>\n<p>Ramshankar Katheria, the MP for Agra who is leading a campaign to save the tomb, said: &#8220;No one has been allowed to go into the foundations for the last three decades.
