Narek Avetisyan, who was moved to the Ophthalmological Center named after S. Malayan in Yerevan as a result of a Dec. 14 incident in a Nagorno-Karabakh military unit, will be discharged from the hospital today, said Georgy Grigoryan, head of the Vascular Disease Department at the ophthalmological center.<\/p>\n
Recall, the 18-year-old called to mandatory military service this spring lost his right eye after being attacked by junior officer Armen Tovmasyan, head of the Yeghnikner military unit’s dining hall. The young soldier underwent surgery to remove his eye altogether.<\/p>\n
According Grigoryan, who spoke to Epress.am earlier today, Narek was preparing to leave the hospital, and there were no post-surgery or medical issues. According to the doctor, though Narek is going home, they will be keeping an eye on him.<\/p>\n
“Though there an individual prosthetic hasn’t been made [for him] yet and the eye area is ugly, the bandage will continue to cover the operated area.\u00a0 After some time, we’ll place a prosthetic which will be movable. The glass prosthetic recalls a picture of an eye and we will do everything possible so that the prosthetic won’t differ in external appearance from the real [eye] since the boy is young,” the doctor said.<\/p>\n
As for Narek’s psychological well-being, the doctor assured us that they have spoken with Narek.<\/p>\n
“We explained that truly the eye was in such a state that we were unable to save it. The eye was removed in one stage and that was right,” he said.<\/p>\n
Grigoryan said that at home, for some time Narek’s mother will help her son with his medication and cleaning his “eye” then Narek will do all that on his own. He added, the main movable prosthetic will be inserted in two months’ time, without surgery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
