{"id":151837,"date":"2011-12-28T23:06:17","date_gmt":"2011-12-28T19:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=151837"},"modified":"2011-12-28T23:06:17","modified_gmt":"2011-12-28T19:06:17","slug":"armenians-to-be-honored-in-jerusalem-for-helping-jews-during-wwii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2011\/12\/28\/armenians-to-be-honored-in-jerusalem-for-helping-jews-during-wwii.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenians to be Honored in Jerusalem for Helping Jews during WWII"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem, on Wednesday will posthumously honor Georges Dilsizian and his son Andr\u00e9-Gustave Dilsizian, as Righteous Among the Nations from France, the <strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ejpress.org\/article\/55295\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">European Jewish Press<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Andr\u00e9-Gustave\u2019s daughter Liliane de Toledo will accept the medal and certificate of honor on her father and grandfather\u2019s behalf.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place in the presence of the survivor, Caroline Elbaz, as well as representatives of the French and Armenian embassies, family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance will be followed by the awarding of the medal and certificate in the Synagogue at Yad Vashem.<\/p>\n<p>Georges Dilsizian was born in Armenia and in the early 19th century immigrated to France, where his 13 children were born.<\/p>\n<p>His son, Andr\u00e9-Gustave married Lea Albohair, a daughter of Jewish immigrants from Turkey.\u00a0In 1942, their daughter Lilian was born.<\/p>\n<p>George Dilsizian felt he could not remain indifferent to the suffering of the Jewish people, especially having witnessed the suffering of the Armenians, and together with his son set out to help the extended family of Lea Albohair by hiding them from Nazi troops during WWII.<\/p>\n<p>Georges Dilsizian passed away in 1946 and Andr\u00e9-Gustave died in 1971.\u00a0 On Feb. 22, 2011, the Commission for the Designation of the Righteous Among the Nations decided to recognize Georges Dilsizian and Andr\u00e9-Gustave Dilsizian as Righteous Among the Nations.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yad Vashem, the Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem, on Wednesday will posthumously honor Georges Dilsizian and his son Andr\u00e9-Gustave Dilsizian.<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on get_the_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on get_the_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":151794,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"tstyn_error":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[36358,36357,25124,665,34048,36359,36360,33907],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/151837"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=151837"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/151837\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/151794"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=151837"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=151837"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=151837"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
