His father was a Soviet agent as well, and when Vartanian was 6 years old, the family moved to Iran. It was under his father&#8217;s influence that Vartanian decided to become a spy \u2014 at the age of 16.<\/p>\n<p>Vartanian is best known for being the person primarily responsible for thwarting <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Operation_Long_Jump\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Operation Long Jump<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>: the WWII German plot to assassinate the &#8220;Big Three&#8221; Allied leaders \u2014 Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, and Franklin Roosevelt \u2014 at the 1943 Tehran Conference. Vartanian was just 19 at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Later, in 1981, a film was shot based on these events called <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Teheran_43\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Teheran 43<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span>, which was screened internationally. Vartanian, however, said that there were many &#8220;shootings and foolishness&#8221; in the film.
