{"id":157211,"date":"2012-01-30T11:07:58","date_gmt":"2012-01-30T07:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=157211"},"modified":"2012-01-30T11:07:58","modified_gmt":"2012-01-30T07:07:58","slug":"let-them-come-and-arrest-me-turkish-minister-denies-armenian-genocide-in-switzerland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2012\/01\/30\/let-them-come-and-arrest-me-turkish-minister-denies-armenian-genocide-in-switzerland.html","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Let Them Come and Arrest Me&#8217;: Turkish Minister Denies Armenian Genocide in Switzerland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Turkey&#8217;s EU affairs minister has challenged France&#8217;s controversial genocide-denial bill in Switzerland, saying such efforts have no chance of survival, <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.todayszaman.com\/news-269907-turkish-minister-i-deny-the-armenian-genocide-come-arrest-me.html\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Today&#8217;s Zaman<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> reports.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish EU Affairs Minister Egemen Ba\u011f\u0131\u015f told reporters in Zurich on Sunday that a bill which was recently been approved by the French Senate and which makes it a crime to deny the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in Anatolia is null and void for Turkey, adding that \u201cwe believe there are more sane people in France than insane ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The French Parliament approved the bill last Monday, complicating an already delicate relationship with Turkey. French President Nicolas Sarkozy \u2014 who personally supported the bill \u2014 plans to sign the measure into law within the required 15-day period after the bill&#8217;s passage on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are today in Switzerland and I am saying the 1915 incidents were not a genocide. Let them come and arrest me,\u201d Ba\u011f\u0131\u015f stated.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland has a penal code article that punishes acts of racism, including public denial of genocides, established against a backdrop of right-wing attacks targeting asylum seekers in the country two decades ago.
