{"id":157515,"date":"2012-01-31T12:02:08","date_gmt":"2012-01-31T08:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=157515"},"modified":"2012-01-31T12:06:22","modified_gmt":"2012-01-31T08:06:22","slug":"turkey-is-waiting-while-collecting-signatures-continues-in-french-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2012\/01\/31\/turkey-is-waiting-while-collecting-signatures-continues-in-french-senate.html","title":{"rendered":"Turkey is Waiting, While Collecting Signatures Continues in French Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are positive developments on collecting the 60 signatures required to challenge the law recently approved by the French Senate that criminalizes denial of genocide (including the Armenian Genocide), a Turkish politician said, although the sufficient number had not yet been reached, the <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hurriyetdailynews.com\/ankara-retains-hope-for-nixing-french-bill.aspx?pageID=238&amp;nID=12652&amp;NewsCatID=338\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hurriyet Daily News<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are positive developments on the issue of signatures, but all is not clear yet,\u201d said \u00d6mer \u00c7elik, deputy chair of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), speaking in a TV broadcast yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey is currently waiting for the conclusion of the legal process in France. If the law is adopted, Ankara will implement ready-prepared sanctions against France, \u00c7elik said.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the European Union has expressed hope on reconciliation between Turkey and Armenia despite the current Franco-Turkish spat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe EU supports good neighborly relations between states. We hope Turkey and Armenia pass over these difficulties,\u201d Jean-Maurice Ripert, new head of the European Union Delegation to Turkey, told reporters after meeting with Turkey\u2019s EU Minister Egemen Ba\u011f\u0131\u015f yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davuto\u011flu said last week he was disappointed by the silence of the European Union on the matter.
