{"id":169711,"date":"2012-03-20T12:56:40","date_gmt":"2012-03-20T08:56:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=169711"},"modified":"2012-03-20T12:56:40","modified_gmt":"2012-03-20T08:56:40","slug":"russia-continues-to-supply-armenia-azerbaijan-with-weapons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2012\/03\/20\/russia-continues-to-supply-armenia-azerbaijan-with-weapons.html","title":{"rendered":"Russia Continues to Supply Armenia, Azerbaijan with Weapons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The volume of Azerbaijan\u2019s imports of major conventional weapons increased by 164% between 2002\u20132006 and 2007\u20132011, making it the 38th largest recipient of weapons, according to <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/books.sipri.org\/product_info?c_product_id=443\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">new data<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span> on international arms transfers published on Mar. 19 by Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).<\/p>\n<p>According to the report, &#8220;Although Armenia dropped from being the 71st largest recipient to 84th place between 2007\u20132011 and 2002\u20132006, the Armenian Government has declared that it will procure arms in response to Azerbaijan\u2019s arms acquisitions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Russia is the main supplier of arms to both states: in 2007\u20132011 it provided 55% of Azerbaijan\u2019s arms imports and a whopping 96% of Armenia\u2019s arms imports, SIPRI reports.<\/p>\n<p>Worldwide, the five biggest suppliers of major conventional weapons in this period were the United States, Russia, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
