{"id":241882,"date":"2013-10-24T01:33:19","date_gmt":"2013-10-23T21:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=241882"},"modified":"2013-10-24T01:35:37","modified_gmt":"2013-10-23T21:35:37","slug":"amnesty-granted-to-brothers-accused-of-bombing-gay-friendly-bar-diy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2013\/10\/24\/amnesty-granted-to-brothers-accused-of-bombing-gay-friendly-bar-diy.html","title":{"rendered":"Amnesty Granted to Brothers Accused of Bombing Gay-Friendly Bar DIY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">The Court of Appeal today not only sustained a lower court&#39;s ruling, but also granted the accused amnesty.&nbsp;<\/span><\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe last court session in the case of the bombing of DIY, a bar in central Yerevan, took place in the Court of Appeal today.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tJudge Manushak Petrosyan refused the plaintiff&#39;s appeal, sustaining the lower court&#39;s ruling that sentenced brothers Arameh and Hambik Khabazyan to 1 year and 7 months&rsquo; provisional imprisonment and 2 years&rsquo; probation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMoreover, the upper court granted the defendants amnesty. Recall, after the lower court&#39;s ruling, the injured party <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2013\/09\/18\/diy-bombing-case-postponed-court-bailiffs-sent-prosecutor-home.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">opined<\/span><\/a><\/strong> that the court set a clearly mild punishment for the accused.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&quot;The act committed by the defendants is a hate crime. Though the RA Criminal Code does not provide for hate crime [per se], it had the opportunity, applying international agreements on human rights, to set a strict punishment, thereby preventing he spread of homophobia, hate, and discrimination,&quot; read the appeal, in part, which was overruled.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHuman rights NGO representatives had expressed their concerns regarding the earlier verdict.
