{"id":251459,"date":"2014-03-31T18:10:57","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T14:10:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=251459"},"modified":"2014-03-31T18:14:24","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T14:14:24","slug":"charge-against-political-activist-shant-harutyunyan-changed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2014\/03\/31\/charge-against-political-activist-shant-harutyunyan-changed.html","title":{"rendered":"Charge Against Political Activist Shant Harutyunyan Changed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">The charge against political activist Shant Harutyunyan, who was <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2013\/11\/05\/clashes-in-central-yerevan-dozens-detained.html\" style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"color:#0000CD;\"><strong>arrested on Nov. 5, 2013<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">, ahead of an anti-government march he organized, has changed.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHarutyunyan&#39;s attorney, Innesa Petrosyan, told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pastinfo.am\/hy\/node\/37164\"><span style=\"color:#0000CD;\"><strong>Pastinfo.am<\/strong><\/span><\/a> [AM] that the charge of Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (RA) Article 316 Section 2 (&quot;violence against a representative of the authorities that is dangerous for life or health&quot;) was removed and replaced with RA Criminal Code Article 258 Section 4 (&quot;hooliganism committed with a weapon or another item used as a weapon&quot;). If convicted under this article, Harutyunyan faces a prison term of 4&ndash;7 years, whereas in the previous charge, he faced imprisonment of 5&ndash;10 years.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHarutyunyan&#39;s attorney has repeatedly said that her client did not use violence against a representative of the authorities, as the police officers on the scene were in civilian clothes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&quot;And on that day [November 5, 2013, the day of his arrest], prior to entering the procession, he warned the police, so that they refrain from provoking the protestors.
