{"id":256384,"date":"2014-07-23T16:55:08","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T12:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=256384"},"modified":"2014-07-23T17:02:28","modified_gmt":"2014-07-23T13:02:28","slug":"political-activist-on-trial-says-he-warned-police-they-will-beat-provocateurs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2014\/07\/23\/political-activist-on-trial-says-he-warned-police-they-will-beat-provocateurs.html","title":{"rendered":"Political Activist on Trial Says He Warned Police They Will Beat Provocateurs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Police officers Khachik Avetisyan (pictured) and Evrik Lonsk, named as victims in the case of political activist Shant Harutyunyan and his friends, said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2014\/07\/23\/deputy-yerevan-police-chief-not-summoned-for-questioning-in-opposition-activist-trial.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000CD;\"><strong>in court today<\/strong><\/span><\/a> that they didn&#39;t see a doctor on <span style=\"color:#0000CD;\"><strong>November 5<\/strong><\/span> (the day of the defendants&#39; arrest): during the incident, they only experienced slight irritation in the eyes, which didn&#39;t last long.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPolice Colonel Avetisyan said that Shant Harutyunyan&#39;s friends charged with violence against a government representative also beat people in civilian clothes, but when they were warned that those whom they were beating were police officers, the protestors continued to attack, saying, &quot;They&#39;re police, hit them.&quot;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAvetisyan said that though his colleagues warned organizers that the march must proceed on the sidewalk, he personally didn&#39;t hear that.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe police officer was unable to answer attorney Hovhannes Kocharyan&#39;s question on which legal act prohibits holding a march on the road. Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, however, removed the question from the records, insisting that now is not the time to check the victim&#39;s legal knowledge.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAvetisyan admitted that the police are obliged to ensure the march&#39;s progress on the road, if march organizers ask them to.
