The young man, who had read one of the marchers&#39; shirt writing &ldquo;Feminism is Cool,&rdquo; received no answer from his friends and stood silently for a few minutes while the loud marchers passed him by.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/0womenrally.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"0womenrally\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-263207\" height=\"350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/0womenrally.jpg\" width=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/0womenrally.jpg 450w, https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/0womenrally-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe main objective of the organizers of the march was spelled out on a large poster reading &ldquo;Women&rsquo;s Rights Day,&rdquo; and not to motherhood or beauty, as March 8th is often perceived in Armenia.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/2womenrally.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"2womenrally\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-263208\" height=\"350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/2womenrally.jpg\" width=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/2womenrally.jpg 450w, https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/2womenrally-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe march moving through downtown Yerevan received various responses from people &#8211; shock, enthusiasm, ridicule &#8211; but there was nearly no indifference. Many passersby took out their phones to record the march, some giggled, others, taking some of the fliers handed out by the marchers, discussed whether the writing was &ldquo;true.&rdquo;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<iframe width=\"425\" height=\"344\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2EuH1vekbFI?wmode=transparent\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen> <\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3womenrally.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"3womenrally\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-263210\" height=\"350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3womenrally.jpg\" width=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3womenrally.jpg 450w, https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/3womenrally-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe march participants passed Aboyan St. and stood at the Republic Square, then moved toward Northern Avenue, where the march ended in a concert.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tDuring the march, the participants chanted:<br \/>\n\tNo to Violence,<br \/>\n\tNo to Borders,<br \/>\n\tNo to Patriarchy,<br \/>\n\tNo to Masters.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAt times the word &lsquo;violence&rsquo; would be exchanged with &lsquo;government.&rsquo;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tSome participants passed out fliers which read;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t&ldquo;Sister, congratulations on March 8,&nbsp;<br \/>\n\tWhich was decided by women in the 19th century to be the day to signify the struggle for women&rsquo;s freedom,&nbsp;<br \/>\n\tAnd not as a holiday for &ldquo;beauty and femininity.&rdquo;<br \/>\n\tYou walk with your head uncovered, but your eyes downcast.<br \/>\n\tYou study at university, but your diploma is for dowry.&nbsp;<br \/>\n\tYou dress yourself in layers at home, while on the street you take off your clothes on billboards to &ldquo;advertise&rdquo; [originally, a play on words for the Armenian word for &#8216;advertisement&#8217;, which translates into &lsquo;influence by praise.&#8217;]\n\tYou have the right to vote but you vote according to a man&rsquo;s wishes.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">You have the right to love, but your family decides who, how, and when to love.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">You want a lot, but the haters &lsquo;like,&rsquo; &lsquo;want,&rsquo; &lsquo;get,&rsquo; and &lsquo;take you.&rsquo; Your haters are those who consider themselves your master.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tYou won the right not to be a reproductive incubator, but the church still anathemizes you when you have an abortion.<br \/>\n\tYou have the right to speak, but you&rsquo;re not the decision maker in keeping your female fetus.<br \/>\n\tThe state obliges you to become a mother and your child has a patronymic name.&nbsp;<br \/>\n\tYou know best who you are and what you want.<br \/>\n\tContinue yourself&hellip;<br \/>\n\tRepoliticize March 8th!&rdquo;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/4womenrally4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"4womenrally4\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-263211\" height=\"350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/4womenrally4.jpg\" width=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/4womenrally4.jpg 450w, https:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/4womenrally4-300x233.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The march moving through downtown Yerevan received various responses from people &#8211; shock, enthusiasm, ridicule &#8211; but there was nearly no indifference.
