{"id":266166,"date":"2015-06-23T11:40:48","date_gmt":"2015-06-23T07:40:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=266166"},"modified":"2015-06-23T12:17:10","modified_gmt":"2015-06-23T08:17:10","slug":"demonstrators-detained-in-yerevan-charged-with-hooliganism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/23\/demonstrators-detained-in-yerevan-charged-with-hooliganism.html","title":{"rendered":"Demonstrators Detained in Yerevan Charged with Hooliganism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">A criminal case of hooliganism (RA Criminal Code Article 258 Part 1) was launched against Taguhi Torosyan, curator, project manager at the&nbsp;Armenian Institute of Contemporary Art who was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/23\/armenian-demonstrators-beaten-chased-and-detained-police-clear-protest-site-in-yerevan-video.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">detained on Tuesday morning<\/span><\/a> and taken to a police station in the town of Ashtarak, Torosyan said in a phone conversation with Epress.am.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe same charges were brought against Holly Armenakyan, another activist detained in the station in Ashtarak; the detainees are currently under investigation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tNote, Torosyan&#39;s detention was carried out with special cruelty: she was beaten, dragged, her shirt was torn.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tArmenian opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan wrote on his personal Facebook page that all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/23\/mass-arrests-in-armenian-capital-accompanied-by-police-profanity-and-harassment-video.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">237 detainees<\/span><\/a> were\/would be charged with hooliganism.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>Late on Monday, after a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/?p=266054\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">three-day sit-in<\/span><\/a> at Freedom Square in central Yerevan, protesters <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/22\/armenian-police-block-march-towards-presidential-palace-as-citizens-march-against-hike-in-electricity-tariff.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">tried to march<\/span><\/a> toward Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan&rsquo;s office at 26 Baghramyan. However, hundreds of armed police officers, forming a barricade, closed the road, not allowing demonstrators to get any closer to the presidential palace.
