{"id":266205,"date":"2015-06-23T19:23:08","date_gmt":"2015-06-23T15:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=266205"},"modified":"2015-06-23T19:24:38","modified_gmt":"2015-06-23T15:24:38","slug":"epress-am-cameraman-hit-in-the-head-after-introducing-himself-as-a-journalist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/23\/epress-am-cameraman-hit-in-the-head-after-introducing-himself-as-a-journalist.html","title":{"rendered":"Epress.am Cameraman Hit in the Head After Introducing Himself as a Journalist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tEpress.am cameraman Tigran Hakobyan (pictured), who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/23\/armenian-demonstrators-beaten-chased-and-detained-police-clear-protest-site-in-yerevan-video.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">was detained<\/span><\/a> on Tuesday morning while covering the demonstration on Baghramyan Avenue in central Yerevan, was released from the police station in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district at around 3 PM, after spending more than 9 hours in police custody.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHakobyan was attacked by law enforcement officers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2015\/06\/23\/armenian-police-use-excessive-force-and-special-means-against-protesters-outside-presidential-residence.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">during the brutal dispersal<\/span><\/a> of the protest sit-in outside the RA Presidential Residence: police hit Hakobyan in the head with a baton, seized his camera, twisted his arms, verbally assaulted him, and took the reporter to the station, despite our correspondent declaring several times he was a journalist and was performing his professional duties.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHakobyan demanded that police officers return his camera; subsequently, one of the officers threw the camera into the car through the window; however, as it turned out, the memory card had been taken out of it.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAfter spending three hours in custody, Hakobyan was questioned as a witness. The investigator asked whether Hakobyan knew who had brought speakers to Baghramyan Avenue, who had whistled&nbsp;during the demonstration. Hakobyan refused to sign anything but his testimony.
