{"id":271563,"date":"2016-03-11T11:39:44","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T07:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=271563"},"modified":"2016-03-11T11:39:44","modified_gmt":"2016-03-11T07:39:44","slug":"armenian-opposition-activist-denied-release-from-pretrial-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2016\/03\/11\/armenian-opposition-activist-denied-release-from-pretrial-custody.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenian Opposition Activist Denied Release from Pretrial Custody"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Armenia&#39;s Court of Appeal refused Friday a request to grant pretrial release to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/01\/07\/human-rights-defenders-name-arrested-opposition-activist-first-political-prisoner-of-2016.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">Gevorg Safaryan<\/span><\/a>, a key member of New Armenia opposition alliance who was arrested on New Year&#39;s Eve and has since been held in custody in Yerevan&#39;s Nubarashen prison for allegedly assaulting and injuring a law enforcement officer.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA number of New Armenia members held a protest action shortly after the issuance of the verdict outside the courthouse and egged the building in protest of the decision. &nbsp;Protester Gagik Yeghiazaryan has been detained as result of a police intervention.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRecall, Gevorg Safaryan was detained by Armenian police on New Year&rsquo;s Eve after a scuffle with law enforcement officers on Yerevan&rsquo;s Freedom Square.
