The Lori district court of first instance, presided over by judge Naira Hovakimyan, found Kungortsev innocent, despite the prosecution having had demanded a 9.5 years&#39; imprisonment for the defendant.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRecall, during the entire <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2015\/03\/24\/witnesses-did-not-see-the-accused-in-attempted-murder-at-the-crime-scene.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">trial process<\/span><\/a> Kungortsev, who&#39;s been in custody since October, 2013, claimed he was not guilty and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/03\/22\/scuffle-at-lori-court-as-defendant-refuses-to-serve-for-someone-else.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">announced<\/span><\/a> at one of the previous court hearings that he was not going to &ldquo;serve a term for someone else.&rdquo;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWhile behind bars, the accused had resorted to self harm, had gone on a number of hunger strikes. Kungortsev&#39;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2013\/10\/22\/mother-of-man-accused-of-murder-claims-son-was-beaten-by-police.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">mother has said<\/span><\/a> that during detention police used violence against her son to force a confession. The charges against Kungortsev were changed from murder to attempted murder in August, 2014.
