{"id":272735,"date":"2016-05-19T15:14:09","date_gmt":"2016-05-19T11:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=272735"},"modified":"2016-05-19T15:14:09","modified_gmt":"2016-05-19T11:14:09","slug":"criminal-case-against-vardges-gaspari-closed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2016\/05\/19\/criminal-case-against-vardges-gaspari-closed.html","title":{"rendered":"Criminal Case Against Vardges Gaspari Closed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tThe Investigative Committee of Armenia has decided to dismiss charges against civic activist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/02\/25\/i-crawled-out-of-the-cell-and-refused-to-go-back-gaspari-recounts-brutal-torture-in-prison.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">Vardges Gaspari<\/span><\/a> for lack of evidence of criminal activity, Gaspari&#39;s lawyer, Tigran Gyurjyan, told Epress.am Thursday.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tGaspari, who was stationed as an observer at the 9\/15 and 9\/16 polling stations in Yerevan during the December 6 constitutional amendments referendum, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/02\/03\/referendum-observer-faces-charges-for-intimidating-voters-and-election-commission-members.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">was being accused of<\/span><\/a> obstructing the work of the election commission. According to prosecutors, &nbsp;he &ldquo;exerted psychological pressure&rdquo; on the members of the election commission, resulting in them being too intimidated to properly perform their duties.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs part of the same police investigation, the investigator had decided late in February to send Gaspari to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/02\/24\/gaspari-subjected-to-torture-inhuman-treatment-in-prison-lawyer-says.html\"><span style=\"color:#0000FF;\">psychiatric assessment<\/span><\/a> after the activist refused to answer the official&#39;s questions, asking him instead whether he had been involved in the criminal proceedings in connection with the post-election incidents in March, 2008.
