{"id":274579,"date":"2016-09-06T13:07:08","date_gmt":"2016-09-06T09:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=274579"},"modified":"2016-09-06T13:08:27","modified_gmt":"2016-09-06T09:08:27","slug":"arrested-armenian-gunmen-on-hunger-strike-to-demand-proper-medical-care-for-injured-allies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2016\/09\/06\/arrested-armenian-gunmen-on-hunger-strike-to-demand-proper-medical-care-for-injured-allies.html","title":{"rendered":"Arrested Armenian Gunman on Hunger Strike to Demand Proper Medical Care for Injured Allies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Smbat Barseghyan, a member of the &ldquo;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/07\/24\/%E2%80%98daredevils-of-sasun%E2%80%99-artists-masseurs-and-civil-rights-activists-video.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">Daredevils of Sasun<\/span><\/a><\/strong>&rdquo; armed group that kept a Yerevan police station under siege for two weeks in July, has been on a hunger strike continuously for 5 days to demand that the injured members of the armed group be provided with proper medical care and be transferred to civilian hospitals, Hayk Alumyan, a lawyer for Barseghyan, told Epress.am Tuesday.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlumyan added that he intended to visit his client today to make sure Barseghyan did not have any health issues.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tLawyers for the arrested gunmen have repeatedly voiced concerns over inadequate medical treatment provided to their clients. Some have gone so far as to say that the &ldquo;Daredevils of Sasun&rdquo; members were <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/08\/22\/arrested-gunmen-%E2%80%98tortured%E2%80%99-at-convicts%E2%80%99-hospital-lawyers-claim.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">being tortured<\/span><\/a><\/strong>.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>The siege of the Erebuni police station began on July 17 as a group of armed men calling themselves the &ldquo;Daredevils of Sasun&rdquo; stormed the building, killing a police colonel in the process, wounding several others and taking the remaining personnel hostage. The initial demand of the gunmen affiliated with radical anti-government movement Founding Parliament was the release of its jailed leader, Karabakh war veteran Zhirayr Sefilyan and a number of other jailed oppositionists. They subsequently announced that they also wanted Armenia&rsquo;s president Serzh Sargsyan to step down.<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>The standoff <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/07\/31\/yerevan-gunmen-put-down-their-weapons.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">ended<\/span><\/a><\/strong> on July 31, as the group announced that they were laying down their arms and would instead continue their fight as &ldquo;prisoners of war.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawyers for the arrested gunmen have repeatedly voiced concerns over inadequate medical treatment provided to their clients.
