{"id":275302,"date":"2016-10-27T15:57:21","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T11:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=275302"},"modified":"2016-10-27T15:59:01","modified_gmt":"2016-10-27T11:59:01","slug":"environmentalists-stage-protest-over-exploitation-of-amulsar-gold-mine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2016\/10\/27\/environmentalists-stage-protest-over-exploitation-of-amulsar-gold-mine.html","title":{"rendered":"Environmentalists Stage Protest Over Exploitation of Amulsar Gold Mine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">A group of environmentalists today held a protest outside the Government building in Yerevan over the implementation of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/07\/06\/british-company-to-turn-jermuk-into-workers-residence-as-part-of-mining-project.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">Amulsar Gold Project<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, appealing to the cabinet of ministers to prevent the exploitation of the mine. &nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">The demonstrators, who are concerned that the mining project will negatively affect Armenia&rsquo;s ecological and national security, held up posters that read &ldquo;Go to Cyanide Hell,&rdquo; &ldquo;Water or Cyanide?&rdquo; &ldquo;No Mining at Amulsar,&rdquo; &ldquo;Hands off Armenia.&rdquo; They also handed out leaflets to passers-by with the following content: &ldquo;Lydian International, [the implementer of the project], plans to process 10 million tons of ore anually, while gold will be extracted with poisonous sodium cyanide the facility of which will be located 1 km from Gndevaz village, 300 meters from Arpa river and 7 km from Jermuk resort town.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">&ldquo;[The project] threatens Armenia&rsquo;s water resources and Jermuk resort town famous for its mineral waters.
