{"id":275571,"date":"2016-11-15T17:10:01","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T13:10:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/?p=275571"},"modified":"2016-11-15T21:15:54","modified_gmt":"2016-11-15T17:15:54","slug":"%e2%80%98daredevils-of-sasun%e2%80%99-gunman-charged-with-police-officer%e2%80%99s-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2016\/11\/15\/%e2%80%98daredevils-of-sasun%e2%80%99-gunman-charged-with-police-officer%e2%80%99s-murder.html","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Daredevils of Sasun\u2019 Gunman Charged with Police Officer\u2019s Murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/09\/06\/arrested-armenian-gunmen-on-hunger-strike-to-demand-proper-medical-care-for-injured-allies.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">Smbat Barseghyan<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, one of the gunmen who seized a Yerevan police station in July, has been charged today with the murder of officer <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/07\/30\/officer-fatally-shot-by-sniper-near-seized-station-police-spokesperson-says.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">Yura Tepanosyan<\/span><\/a><\/strong> who was fatally shot on July 30 while sitting in a car parked some 400 meters from the besieged building, Hayk Alumyan, a lawyer for Barseghyan, told Epress.am on Tuesday, adding that his client denies the charge of murder.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe gunman, along with the nearly three dozen other members of the anti-government armed group, had, until now, been facing charges of illegally acquiring weapons, seizing state buildings, vehicles and\/or communications facilities, and taking hostages.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tImmediately after the officer&rsquo;s deaths, Armenia&rsquo;s police released a statement to accuse the gunmen of firing the fatal shot. However, one of the group&rsquo;s leaders, Varuzhan Avetisyan, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/07\/31\/armenian-armed-group-insist-they-had-nothing-to-do-with-killing-of-policeman.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">countered the accusation<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, insisting that the spot where the officer&rsquo;s car was parked was out of the group&rsquo;s sight. Avetisyan further suggested that Tepanosyan &ldquo;must have been killed by one of the random sniper shots police were firing&rdquo; around the besieged station.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>The &ldquo;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epress.am\/en\/2016\/07\/24\/%E2%80%98daredevils-of-sasun%E2%80%99-artists-masseurs-and-civil-rights-activists-video.html\"><span style=\"color:#000080;\">Daredevils of Sasun<\/span><\/a><\/strong>&rdquo; armed group seized the police compound in Yerevan&rsquo;s Erebuni district to demand the resignation of Armenian president Serzh Sarksyan and the release of jailed opposition politician and leader of anti-government Founding Parliament movement Jirayr Sefilyan.
