{"id":277087,"date":"2017-01-09T17:41:13","date_gmt":"2017-01-09T13:41:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epress.am\/?p=277087"},"modified":"2017-01-10T11:44:38","modified_gmt":"2017-01-10T07:44:38","slug":"armenian-hunger-striking-prisoner-plans-to-now-refuse-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/01\/09\/armenian-hunger-striking-prisoner-plans-to-now-refuse-water.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenian Hunger-Striking Prisoner Plans to Now Refuse Water"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Armenian hunger-striking prisoner now intends to refuse water, too, according to Arayik Papikyan, a lawyer with Armenia&#8217;s Helsinki Association for Human Rights. <strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><a style=\"color: #003366;\" href=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2016\/12\/23\/armenian-oppositionists-supporter-goes-on-hunger-strike-in-prison-to-demand-bail.html\">Nerses Poghosyan<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, a suspect arrested seven months ago as part of the Armenian law enforcement forces\u2019 investigation into an alleged coup plot, has been on a hunger strike since December 15 with a demand to be released on his own recognizance or on bail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Poghosyan] is severely depleted and exhausted, despite insisting that he has no health complaints. But it is evident from his appearance that he is in a very bad condition,\u201d Papikyan, who visited the prisoner on January 8, told Epress.am on Monday, adding that prison medics periodically visit Poghosyan to keep eye on the prisoner&#8217;s blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Nerses Poghosyan had previously appealed to the office of Armenia&#8217;s human rights Ombudsman, the general prosecutor&#8217;s office, and the Ministry of Justice to protest against his arrest. According to Papikyan, however, the prosecutor&#8217;s office has yet to respond, while representatives of the Ombudsman&#8217;s office only visited the prisoner once at the end of December.
