{"id":278056,"date":"2017-01-30T16:12:35","date_gmt":"2017-01-30T12:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epress.am\/?p=278056"},"modified":"2017-01-30T16:12:35","modified_gmt":"2017-01-30T12:12:35","slug":"yerevan-prisoner-moved-to-livable-cell-following-ombudsmans-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/01\/30\/yerevan-prisoner-moved-to-livable-cell-following-ombudsmans-intervention.html","title":{"rendered":"Yerevan Prisoner Moved to &#8216;Livable&#8217; Cell Following Ombudsman&#8217;s Intervention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a visit from a representative of the office of Armenia&#8217;s human rights ombudsman, Nubarashen inmate <strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><a style=\"color: #003366;\" href=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/01\/28\/yerevan-prisoner-again-taken-to-cell-with-broken-windows.html\">Ararat Khandoyan<\/a><\/span><\/strong> has been transferred from solitary confinement to a cell with livable conditions, his lawyer, Ara Gharagyozyan, told Epress.am on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>On January 27, the lawyer had published Khandoyan&#8217;s letter from prison, according to which, the inmate had been taken to a \u201ccold and damp\u201d solitary confinement cell, despite having serious health problems.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Epress.am, Gharagyozyan said he was not aware of the exact reason for Khandoyan&#8217;s transfer; \u201cIt must have been due to a violation of some internal prison rules; but even if Khandoyan has in fact committed a violation, he should not be held in inhuman conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawyer added that he intends to demand that prison authorities conduct an administrative investigation and offer a legal justification for repeatedly transferring Khandoyan to unlivable cells.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ararat Khandoyan is the brother of Nagorno-Karabakh war veteran Arayik Khandoyan, one of the three dozen members of the \u201cSasna Tsrer\u201d anti-government group that seized a Yerevan police station in July to demand Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan\u2019s resignation and the release of Founding Parliament opposition movement Jirayr Sefilyan.
