{"id":279514,"date":"2017-03-09T14:05:31","date_gmt":"2017-03-09T10:05:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epress.am\/?p=279514"},"modified":"2017-03-09T17:06:09","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T13:06:09","slug":"armenian-economist-links-hikes-in-consumer-prices-to-upcoming-parliamentary-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/03\/09\/armenian-economist-links-hikes-in-consumer-prices-to-upcoming-parliamentary-elections.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenian Economist Links Hikes in Consumer Prices to Upcoming Parliamentary Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Zhoghovurd newspaper writes that food prices have begun to rapidly rise in Armenia, which, according to economist and opposition Armenian National Congress party member Vahagn Khachatryan, is linked to the forthcoming parliamentary elections.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The consumer goods that have gone up in price include bananas, sugar, gasoline, and chocolate, which are all products imported to Armenia by MP candidates of the ruling Republican Party, the paper notes. \u201cIn other words, the authorities have begun collecting the money they intend to spend on pre-election bribes; meanwhile, in the past, it was the other way round \u2013 they would hand out the bribes on the election day, and the prices would start going up in the following days.
