{"id":279850,"date":"2017-04-03T13:51:22","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T09:51:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epress.am\/?p=279850"},"modified":"2017-04-03T13:53:20","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T09:53:20","slug":"ruling-party-wins-armenian-parliamentary-elections-with-nearly-50-of-votes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/04\/03\/ruling-party-wins-armenian-parliamentary-elections-with-nearly-50-of-votes.html","title":{"rendered":"Ruling Party Wins Armenian Parliamentary Elections With Nearly 50% of Votes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/resultselections.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-279849\" src=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/resultselections.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Armenia&#8217;s Central Election Commission has published the preliminary vote results of <strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><a style=\"color: #003366;\" href=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/04\/02\/voter-fraud-persistent-problem-in-armenian-parliamentary-elections.html\">Sunday&#8217;s parliamentary elections<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, according to which, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, headed by president Serzh Sargsyan, has won 49.12 percent of the vote with 771 247 ballots cast in its favor.<\/p>\n<p>The three other forces that have passed the required 5 and 7 percent threshold to gain representation in the National Assembly are the Tsarukyan alliance \u2013 led by one of Armenia&#8217;s major businessmen Gagik Tsarukyan &#8211; with 27.32 percent of the votes, followed by the opposition Yelk bloc &#8211; 7.77 percent, and the Armenian Revolutionary Federation &#8211; Dashnaktsutyun &#8211; 6.57 percent.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CEC statement, the total number of ballots cast on Sunday amounted to 1 577 323, which makes up 60.93 percent of Armenia&#8217;s eligible voters.<\/p>\n<p>Note, these were the first major elections since the adoption of the constitutional amendments in 2015 seeking to transform Armenia into a parliamentary republic.
