{"id":282917,"date":"2017-12-08T16:46:05","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T12:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epress.am?p=282917"},"modified":"2017-12-08T16:46:05","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T12:46:05","slug":"armenian-parliament-passes-bill-on-preventing-violence-in-family","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/12\/08\/armenian-parliament-passes-bill-on-preventing-violence-in-family.html","title":{"rendered":"Armenian Parliament Passes Bill on \u2018Preventing Violence in Family\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Assembly of Armenia overwhelmingly passed a bill Friday seeking to \u201cprevent family violence, protect persons subjected to family violence, and restore family cohesion.\u201d All MPs from the ruling Republican Party and the opposition Yelk alliance voted in favor of the bill; 12 MPs from the Tsarukyan voted against the bill, while 8 lawmakers abstained from voting.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><a style=\"color: #003366;\" href=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/11\/24\/armenian-domestic-violence-bill-does-not-ensure-effective-protection-for-victims-activists-say.html\">Recall<\/a><\/span><\/strong>, on November 23 a group of women\u2019s rights activists gathered outside the Government building in Yerevan to protest against the unexpected amendments to the bill. The demonstrators demanded that the authorities change the name of the bill back to its original one and make other contextual changes to the draft to ensure that the future law is effective in protecting domestic violence victims.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #003366;\" href=\"http:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/11\/16\/domestic-violence-bill-in-armenia-undergoes-sudden-and-significant-changes.html\">draft\u2019s final version<\/a><\/strong><\/span> published on the government\u2019s official website in mid-November showed that the bill had undergone several significant amendments since it was first put to public discussion early last month.
