{"id":283076,"date":"2017-12-26T14:55:43","date_gmt":"2017-12-26T10:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/epress.am?p=283076"},"modified":"2017-12-26T14:55:43","modified_gmt":"2017-12-26T10:55:43","slug":"two-members-of-yerevan-armed-group-on-hunger-strike-held-in-unlivable-conditions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epress.am\/en\/2017\/12\/26\/two-members-of-yerevan-armed-group-on-hunger-strike-held-in-unlivable-conditions.html","title":{"rendered":"Two Members of Yerevan Armed Group on Hunger Strike, Held in \u2018Unlivable Conditions\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two gunmen from the Daredevils of Sasun armed group, Armen Bilyan and Smbat Barseghyan, are holding a hunger strike at the Nubarashen prison in Yerevan; their lawyers, Armine Fanyan and Hayk Alumyan, told Epress.am on Tuesday that the conditions in the cell designated for hunger-strikers are \u201cpractically unlivable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bilyan has been refusing food for 8 days; he demands that he is transferred to a civilian hospital where he would be provided with proper medical treatment. The prisoner wants to undergo a head examination, which, according to lawyer Fanyan, he is prepared to pay for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no proper medical stuff or equipment in Nubarashen: there\u2019s basically one physician for everything,\u201d she said. What\u2019s more, she added, the cells in the prison are always overcrowded; Bilyan\u2019s cell in particular, where there is sufficient room only for 7 prisoners, currently holds 13 inmates \u201cwho constantly smoke.\u201d \u201cAs for the cell for the hunger-strikers\u2019 cell, the conditions there are unlivable. My client is currently held in a huge cell, which is never heated properly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Fanyan, a \u201cjust-for-the-sake-of-it\u201d committee invited at the Convicts\u2019 Hospital has decided that Bilyan \u201cdoes not suffer from any disorders.\u201d \u201cTheir cynicism has now reached the point where they think a person would hold a hunger strike for no reason whatsoever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smbat Barseghyan, for his part, as been on a hunger strike for 4 days, demanding that he is transferred from Nubarashen to Armavir jail. \u201cWe\u2019ve filed an appeal with the authorities, but we have yet to receive a response,\u201d his lawyer Hayk Alumyan told us, confirming that the cell for hunger-strikers \u201cis freezing cold.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bilyan has been refusing food for 8 days; he demands that he is transferred to a civilian hospital where he would be provided with proper medical treatment.
