Nearly 300 hectares of agricultural plots have been left without water as employees of the local water utility insist \u201cit\u2019s not irrigation season yet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe irrigation season is open; we\u2019ve already sown the seeds. The winds of recent days, meanwhile, caused all the sprouted seeds to dry up. We ask [the water services] to give us water, but they say they won\u2019t give any because the irrigation season does not open until April 1. That\u2019s nonsense. Electricity cables are cut off, [the irrigation system] does not get any power [to be able to supply water],\u201d Artimet village resident Gagik Mirzakhanyan said in an interview with Epress.am.<\/p>\n<p>According to the farmer, employees of the Vagharshapat water utility have even gone so far as to blame the villagers for their own misfortune, saying: \u201cWho told you to sow the seeds ahead of time?\u201d and \u201cDid you ask us before sowing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe villagers can afford not to ask permission \u00a0from unknowledgeable people to start farming. The start of sowing depends largely on the weather conditions,\u201d Mirzakhanyan argued.<\/p>\n<p>The desperate farmers have been dependant on the supply of water coming from melting snow to be able to water parts of their plots.
