“The question of Nagorno-Karabakh (NKR) recognition was being discussed in Armenia in the 1990s. I, as a responsible [member] of the corresponding committee, had proposed at the time a project by which Armenia had to simultaneously recognize both Azerbaijan’s and NKR’s independence,” said Yerevan State Linguistic University (YSLU) named after V. Brusov Rector Suren Zolyan, who was also the secretary of the Supreme Council Standing Committee on NKR Issues in the 90s.<\/p>\n

According to Zolyan, the last word at the time was had by Supreme Council President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who asked that the vote be postponed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Ter-Petrosyan explained that he was to go to Moscow and it would be right that those issues be discussed also with Russia’s leadership,” added the YSLU Rector, emphasizing that Armenian until now is “turning its attention” to those legal issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
