The next hearing of the trial of opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) youth activists Sargis Gevorgyan and David Kiramijyan was to have taken place today at the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron (Center) and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts.<\/p>\n

The trial, however, was postponed because Kiramijyan’s attorney, Melanya Arustamyan, did not appear in court. Recall that today those citizens who were not involved as witnesses during the investigation were to testify. <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
These individuals were called in as witnesses only after the youth said they wanted to present to the court additional evidence to testify their innocence. According to the defense, the new witnesses will testify to what really happened on May 31 near Saryan’s statue.<\/p>\n

Recall that Kiramijyan is accused of “hooliganism” under Article 258 Section 1 Point 3 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, while Gevorgyan is being charged under Article 316 Section 1 for “violence against a representative of the authorities.” <\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The youth say that on May 31 of this year, they wanted to stroll through Yerevan’s Freedom Square, however, police officers stopped them, then detained them. According to their testimony, the youth were subject to violence by the police who detained them. The police, on the other hand, say it was the youth who attacked them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
