The C-300 sale to Azerbaijan needn’t be such a cause for concern for Armenia in a strategic sense, if Russia truly takes on the defense of the Republic of Armenia’s borders, said MITQ Analytical Center Director Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan during a press conference today.<\/p>\n

According to the analyst, Russia, during the course of its history, has not led an unequivocal policy in any region. Asked whose side Russia will take if the Karabakh war resumes, Melik-Shahnazaryan said:<\/p>\n

“I am convinced of one thing: if the war begins, Russia won’t take on the duties established by the conditions of collective security.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He is convinced that the Russian forces stationed in Armenia won’t intervene in that war. One of the explanations, in the analyst’s words, is that “the war is taking place not between Azerbaijan and Armenia, but between Mountainous Karabakh and Azerbaijan.. even if Azerbaijan carries out military actions against the Republic of Armenia.”<\/p>\n
