Russia’s plans to extend the contract for its military base in Armenia, according to political analyst Sergey Minasyan, is a political “message” to Azerbaijan; meaning, in the case of military actions resuming, Russia is preparing to show its support for Armenia.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“That’s the reason why Azerbaijan’s bellicose statements have decreased lately,” said Minasyan, adding that “extending the contract for another14 years specifies even more so the format of relations between Armenia and Russia.”<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As for Russia selling C-300 missile devices to Azerbaijan, Minasyan said that first, he’s not convinced that such a deal took place, and second, even if the sale did occur, then in fact, it’s for Russia to have a balanced policy in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Russia, making use of the favorable situation, is attempting to get the maximum guarantees in the region,” said the analyst, adding that the alleged C-300 sale cannot affect the military balance on Armenia and Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n
