“Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service has no information on the development of a Georgian-Azerbaijani confederation,” said ministry spokesperson Elhan Polukhov in an interview with 1news.az, commenting on recent reports on the matter.<\/p>\n

Days earlier, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nino Kalandadze had told journalists that the development of a Georgian-Azerbaijani confederation would contribute to establishing regional security.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Georgia has practically given its agreement to forming a confederation with Azerbaijan. The format of this initiative depends on diplomats’ negotiations, this is the work of diplomats,” she had said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Following Kalandadze’s statement, Georgia’s Social Democrat party issued an official statement requiring the country’s foreign minister to explain the news of creating a confederation with Azerbaijan.<\/p>\n
