The United States has given Russia a “carte blanche” in the region since the events in the South Caucasus today almost don’t have any effect on US national security policy, said Amanda Paul, an analyst with the independent think tank European Policy Centre, in an interview with 1news.az, reports News.az.<\/p>\n

Even if a new war breaks out in Karabakh, according to Washington, it will have little effect on the US’ own interests of security, said Paul.<\/p>\n

The absence of US interest is due to a number of issues over Russia’s need for assistance.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“This particularly relates to Iran and Afghanistan, which are more important today for the US.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“The South Caucasus today is the most armed region in Europe and the continuing growth of arms and military power by either Armenian, Russian or Azerbaijani [forces] is a very dangerous event, which has, unfortunately, been underestimated by the West,” said the analyst.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
