On Sept. 7, the Komi Supreme Court gave citizen of the Republic of Armenia Mkrtich Khachatryan the opportunity to legally reside in Russia, reports Komi News. (The Komi Republic is a federal subject of Russia.)<\/p>\n

Khachatryan, who had staged a 13-day hunger strike, had been living in Russia illegally for 9 years. Earlier, the court had ruled to deport the Armenian citizen; however, on July 25, Khachatryan had a child and continued to live in Russia.<\/p>\n

According to local media outlets, the child’s birth certificate does not name a father and only lists the mother’s surname and a patronymic (father’s first name).\u00a0<\/p>\n
