Yerevan City Hall today discussed the Armenian National Congress’ (HAK) request for a permit to hold a rally on Sept. 24 at Freedom (Liberty) Square in central Yerevan.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
During the discussion, in which HAK member Tigran Arakelyan was present, a heated debate played out between members of the opposition group and city hall representatives, which turned out to be ineffective for HAK: Yerevan City Hall once again denied the group’s request, suggesting they use the area near the Matenadaran (Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts) instead.\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Arakelyan said that arguing with city hall representatives was simply pointless, and the issue must be resolved in the courts.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, HAK’s earlier appeal to hold a rally in Freedom Square on Sept. 17 was also denied.<\/p>\n
