Russia attacking Georgia is a real threat, said Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in a Sept. 12 interview with Newsweek.<\/p>\n

“Georgia can\u2019t attack Russia, while a defenseless Georgia is a big temptation for Russia to change our government through military means.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“Every time [Vladimir] Putin has run for president, he has gone to war before. It looks like he will run for reelection, so of course that worries us.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“As part of ongoing security cooperation, we hope that the US will help us with defense-weapons capabilities. But I don\u2019t think there are clear deadlines for anything here,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Asked whether he feels that the US is forgetting Georgia, the Georgian leader replied in the negative, saying that, in fact, Washington has been supporting Tbilisi.<\/p>\n
