“That individual who came to government thanks to the bloody events of March 1 [2008], doesn’t have the right to sign a long-term contract,” said leader of the Republic Party [Editor’s Note: not to be confused with the ruling Republican Party of Armenia] Aram Sargsyan at today’s Armenian National Congress (HAK) rally, commenting on Serzh Sargsyan extending the term of the Russian military base in Armenia for 49 years.<\/p>\n

“That speaks to that individual’s fear and mistrust. I’m not against Armenia, to equal the equal, establish partnership relations with all countries, also with Russia,” he said.<\/p>\n

To get to that point, according to Sargsyan, it’s necessary to establish democracy inside Armenia, securing a place in the international arena. In his words, “after that it’ll be possible to solve all the difficult issues, as well as the Karabakh issue.”<\/p>\n

Speaking on the criticism directed toward the Armenian National Congress (HAK), he said, he admits that the opposition and his led Republic Party can’t not make mistakes. However, at the same time, HAK, according to Sargsyan, is today the only force that joins people and political parties who hold different views.<\/p>\n
